"He can't see what lies ahead-he doesn't know how to escape his prison of circumstances. But he's not alone: there are others in this position all around him, each with their own balloon tied around their heads."

The painting hints at our own desire for freedom, but also at the barriers that keep us from achieving it. We each have our own ideas about how things should be and why they should be that way; but when it comes time to take action, we often find ourselves blocked by our own preconceived notions.
